All Grown Up

All Grown Up MP3 (right click to "save as")

We get a chance to catch up with a very special, on the verge of graduating, college senior: my cousin. If you'll recall, previous conversations we've had covered the tail end of her high school experience, and then pre-college, as she was deciding which university to bless with her presence. Now it's three years later and she's about to enter the real world! [25:19 min]

Creature Comfort

Tumblr_m7q3qhbmng1qj06a9o7_500
Most people like to watch animal documentaries but rare are the folk who are so moved by animals that they just have to learn everything about them, to obsess! This episode's guests are amateur animal experts and I brought them on to discuss two books they're currently working through, Zoobiquity and A Small Furry Prayer. Then we launch into the ethics of zoos and marine aquariums and how/if we can continue to visit Sea World. Warning: this episode also contains elephants. [18:39 min]

Just a Small Town Girl

Big_doodle_2_detail

Most of us are suburb kids, we don't know what it's like to rise at dawn and take care of the barn animals. It seems idyllic and oh so American but what is it really like to grow up in a small town? This episode's guest grew up on a farm and we ask her pressing questions like "How real was the Dukes of Hazzard?" Get your overalls on and listen in! [18:39 min]

Under Lock and Key

Under Lock And Key by You, Me, Us

Under Lock and Key MP3 (right click to "save as")

There's nothing so titillating as knowing that someone journals. My mind immediately starts to thrum excitedly about the prospect of secrets being kept somewhere that I could eventually read. Of course, breaking into someone's journal is an absolute no-no so I guess we'll just continue to fake vulnerability and accessibility with our nearest and dearest while writing behind their backs in secret. Or we could all open up and journal to each other in a therapeutic circle? Does that sound great? This episode is all about one of my favorite topics: journalling! [20:29 mins]

Bonus Episode: Hush, Yuppies

Bonus Episode: Hush, Yuppies by You, Me, Us
In this special add-on to our last podcast, we focus on The Marina district of San Francisco.  Reasons for and against the Marina include the clean streets versus the cookie cutter folk who reside there.  Basically we come to terms with our yuppiehood. [12:33 min]

Will it impact our dating lives if we remain unemployed? Find out if we're splitting the bill or if you're paying for your own damn alcohol. [31:45 min]

No Longer in Service

No Longer In Service by You, Me, Us
It's a love-hate relationship with phones isn't it? We're connected to anything and anyone should we need them, but we're also connected to them should they need us. Or should they have frivolous requests or seven minutes to shoot the breeze. On this episode we explore why the phone should be a communication device, but not necessarily a talking device. The article we reference is Gizmodo's "10 reasons to avoid talking on the phone." [24:07 min]

Oh To Be Young Again

Oh To Be Young Again by You, Me, Us

A few months ago, I talked to my cousin about her upcoming college decision in "Into the Wild." She recently visited the West Coast and I accompanied her to Berkeley for a campus visit. I felt quite parental escorting her through university sponsored activites. More importantly, I wanted to know what it's like hanging out with us, people nearly twice her age. Then we close with a little ditty about prom. [22:27 min]

Coming to America

Coming To America by You, Me, Us
It's not easy moving to another country at a young age. What might be some of the challenges of finding your place on the playground, meeting other ethnicities, and simply making it to America? In this rambly episode we explore all these things. At the end, we bring in a learned authority to shed some insight into how our emotional cores might only be accessible through first languages. Gong Xi Fa Chai! [24:20 min]

The Woman With the Tattooed Hands

The Woman With The Tattooed Hands by You, Me, Us
They say getting your first tattoo is a gateway to many more. I went from one to over a dozen in quick succession and now I've found someone who's been similarly afflicted. We discuss the basics of getting tattooed, the (positive/negative) images associated with tattooed folk, and wrap it up with some talk about tattooing and relationships. This one's a keeper. What can I get for a dollar?

What Can I Get For A Dollar? by You, Me, Us
Is it really possible to black out when drinking? Or is that just an excuse for shenanigans? I've brought some experienced drinkers on-board to answer this crucial question. Then we delve into intervening on my sister's behalf, because she invited someone and he invited someone(s) when we went out a few weekends ago. And it was all a disaster. Come along for the ride! She's All That

At the beginning of the new year, we present you with a conversation about using your (feminine) wiles. Some might confuse it with flirting, persuasion, or even coercion, but it's nothing of the sort. It's just about knowing what you want and getting what you deserve. We also attempt to find out if emotion has any place in this space. [17:04 min]

Days Of (No) Thunder by You, Me, Us
